Bridgwater

10 min from The Sedges

Somerset's largest town, with a lively centre, riverside walks and the world-famous Bridgwater Carnival.

Just a short drive from The Sedges, Bridgwater is Somerset’s largest town and a great place to spend a few hours. Sitting on the River Parrett, it has a long history as a busy inland port, and you can still see the old docks and the striking telescopic footbridge today.

The town is best known for the Bridgwater Carnival – one of the largest illuminated carnivals in the world, held each November, with its origins in the Guy Fawkes celebrations of 1605. There’s also the Blake Museum, dedicated to Admiral Robert Blake, plus plenty of shops, cafes and riverside walks to enjoy year round.
