Dunster Castle & Village

40 min from The Sedges

A fairytale castle above one of England's best-preserved medieval villages, on the edge of Exmoor.

Perched on a wooded hill overlooking the Bristol Channel, Dunster Castle has stood guard over this corner of Somerset for more than a thousand years. Now in the care of the National Trust, its dramatic exterior, subtropical gardens and richly furnished rooms make for a wonderful day out.

A step back in time

Below the castle, the village of Dunster is a picture-postcard tangle of medieval streets, with the octagonal Yarn Market, a working watermill and plenty of tea rooms and independent shops to explore.

It is around a 40-minute drive from The Sedges and makes a lovely half-day trip, especially combined with the nearby Exmoor coast.
