Cheddar Gorge

Cheddar Gorge is one of Britain’s most spectacular natural wonders and a fantastic day out for all the family. The dramatic limestone cliffs rise almost 140 metres, and the winding road through the gorge is a favourite with walkers, climbers and cyclists alike.

Beneath the cliffs lie the remarkable Cheddar Caves, including Gough’s Cave, where Britain’s oldest complete human skeleton – “Cheddar Man” – was found. And of course, this is the home of the original Cheddar cheese, still matured in the caves today. The village below is full of shops, tearooms and places to eat.
