Brean Down

Brean Down is one of the most striking landmarks on the Somerset coast — a natural pier of high ground jutting out into the sea, rich in wildlife and history. The climb to the top is rewarded with sweeping views across the bay to Wales.

History and wildlife

At the far end stands Brean Down Fort, built in the 1860s and later used in the Second World War. The headland, cared for by the National Trust, is a haven for sea birds and wild flowers.

It is around a 30-minute drive from The Sedges, next to the long sandy beach at Brean.
